There are more than 61,000 named places in Georgia, according to the U.S. Board on Geographic Names. (Yes, this thing exists!)
Rather than mapping all that, I filtered out the physical features: streams, swamps, guts, gaps, summits, springs and the like.
If you like looking around at maps and place names, here’s your place. There are more summits in Atlanta than I’d have thought.
The raw data is here. The value to mappers? Lat/long for all features, which includes cities, populated places, etc.
H/T to CartoDB’s free tier, on which this map was made.
